Improvement of Air Quality in the Opole Voivodeship

The Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection has conducted an air quality assessment for the year 2023 and, based on this evaluation, classified zones regarding both human health protection and plant protection. This information has been included in the regional report on the assessment of air pollutant levels for 2023, which was submitted to the Opole Voivodeship Board on April 26, 2024.

The health assessment was carried out separately for 12 pollutants: sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O₃), benzene (C₆H₆), particulate matter PM10, particulate matter PM2.5, and pollutants found in PM10, including benzo(a)pyrene, arsenic, cadmium, nickel, and lead. The assessment regarding plant protection was conducted separately for three pollutants: sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen oxides (NOₓ), and ozone (O₃).

According to the published Air Quality Assessment Report for 2023 for the Opole Voivodeship, there was a significant decrease in the concentration of dust pollutants in the Opole Voivodeship compared to 2022. In 2023, the permissible levels of suspended dust PM10 and PM2.5 were met throughout the Opole Voivodeship. . The improvement of air quality in 2023 is the result of air protection activities and very favorable meteorological conditions.
