Thanks to the amended directive on air quality, the annual limit value for the main pollutant—particulate matter (PM2.5)—is being reduced by more than half. A regular review of air quality standards for reassessment, in line with the latest scientific evidence and social and technological advancements, will aid the EU in achieving a zero pollution level no later than 2050, synergizing with efforts towards climate neutrality.
